Almost there...

Some time in the next 3 weeks we should have our Benjamin out in the real world with us!   We can't wait!  Both of us are so looking forward to holding, cuddling, and playing with our little boy.  I have the additional excitement of not being as big as a house anymore.  Some women when they are pregnant talk about how huge they feel, but when you look at them, they don't look so big.  I really do...

38 week Benjamin Bump
I am now experiencing a pregnant woman's right of passage where everywhere I go, total strangers stop me to say things like, "You're almost done right? You look like you are about to pop."  My favorite so far was when I was meeting Alain at the gate to the hospital because I need to pick something up from him, so he was meeting me halfway.  I walked to the gate (which is literally across the street from our apt), and I was there before him, so I leaned against the railing to wait for him.  A security guard immediately pulled up beside me and said, "Are you all right, ma'm?  I just smiled and told him I was fine, just waiting for my husband and then tried to look as happy as possible for the rest of the time so that no one else would worry that I was going to give birth at the hospital gate :-)

We've been getting Benjamin's room all ready for him!  Here are some photos of things awaiting his arrival:

If you are wondering, "what's up with the yellow flowers?"  wonder no longer:  Last week Alain took his Step 3 Board exams.  This was a rigorous, 2 day, 16 hour exam, that he has been studying for months in preparation.   After he had completed the exam, he came home and greeted me at the door with 3 bouquets of yellow flowers, and then proceeded to put together our stroller & glider chair.  I was so blessed by his selflessness and hard working attitude!  This is just one example of what a wonderful, godly man I am blessed to call my husband!

One highlight of this month was the full moon on March 18th.  I was hoping that Ben might be enticed by the largest full moon in 18 years to make an early appearance, but he wasn't interested, so Alain & I went up McKelligon Canyon to do some moon-watching and so Alain could take some pictures:

Next post will cover our birthday celebrations, if baby doesn't decide to steal the show! :-)

Random happenings in February...

The last I left us, we were up to our knees in water, without a home :-)  Due to all of February's activity, I haven't been able to blog and update you all as to what has happened since...

First, the same snow & freeze that destroyed our apartment, also closed down some major TX roads, so the tenets of our new apartment weren't able to leave as fast as we originally thought.  So we stayed an extended time with Joel, Jill, & Sarah Radunzel.  They are so great...
It was such a blessing to be able to spend the extended time this these friends that we love so much.  Also we learned a lot of what we have to look forward too as we saw Joel & Jill embrace their new role as parents to baby Sarah.  We can't wait to introduce baby Benjamin to her!  Also I got the privilege to be Sarah's first babysitter, which was so much fun.

Finally we were able to move into our new apt, which is literally right across the street from WBAMC.  Who knew we could get closer? :-)  We had a wonderful group of friends from Cross of Grace and the Navigators who were able to come out on a weekday afternoon to help us move (the only time we had available since Alain is working night right now).  We got all of the stuff moved into the new place in 24 hours.  It's been slower unpacking, but we had the kitchen, dining room, & living room set up enough to have our first get-together BBQ on Saturday.

Another reason to love El Paso...perfect BBQing weather in February.  LOVE IT!

We had a mix of friends from our care group & from Navs over, and it was a blast.  I'm so glad everyone could come out.  We forgot to take pictures though :-(

On February 19-21 we had a blast traveling to Galveston, TX for the wedding of our friends David & Samantha Martin.  David was Alain's best man for our wedding, and Alain had the privilege of returning the favor for David's wedding.  The wedding weekend was packed...

Saturday we flew in and settled into our hotel, then Alain, David, Joel, & another friend Munson drove up to Houston for David's bachelor party at Fogo de Chau's.  They must have had a great time because they didn't get back to the hotel until 1:30 a.m. :-)

Jill, Sarah & I had some girl time.  We initially went to a seafood restaurant, but it was packed and there was no parking, so we decided to drive down Seawall Blvd to find a place to eat.  The fog was so thick we could barely make out the restaurant names!  We were about to give up and drive back to the hotel to order pizza, when we spotted an IHOP, so we stopped there and enjoyed delicious crepes, pancakes & eggs.

Sunday we all met up with David & Samantha's families at Samantha's church for a great service, then we transitioned to a nearby park for a picnic lunch.  Then we went to a nearby bowling ally for a couple of rounds of bowling, and ice cream cake to celebrate David's birthday.

Then it was off to the church for the wedding rehersal, then to a delicious seafood restaurant for the rehersal dinner.

The next morning we were up early for the wedding!  Alain & David left early for the church, and I went to the wedding with the Radunzel's.

Alain had fun decorating their getaway car :-)

A picture of the M&M's David used to propose to Samantha :-)

The wonderful couple...we are so happy for them!

After the wedding, we had about an hour of free time before we needed to be at the airport, so Alain & I had an impromptu beach date.  We stopped at Sonic for some delicious lunch & ice cream, then walked along the beach taking pictures...

34-week Benjamin Bump

February was a pretty great month...and it just flew by.  I have a feeling March will be just the same!

P.S. This is an overdue announcement!  In June we will be moving to Ft. Hood in Killeen, TX, where Alain has accepted a Family Medicine Residency position at Darnell Army Medical Center.  In so many ways we see this as a blessing from God, and are excited to see what He will do in & through us there.  Please continue to pray that we find a good church there, that God gives us wisdom for where to live, and for godly friendships!
